Bridget, Muizenberg's truck-eating bridge strikes again
After a months-long streak of good behaviour, Bridget has officially blown her diet.
The last time we checked in on Muizenberg’s notorious low-clearance bridge — affectionately dubbed 'Bridget' — was on 14 February 2025. At the time, Bridget had reportedly undergone a 'lifestyle change' following years of snacking on unsuspecting trucks.

Thanks to mounting media attention and complaints from frustrated residents and motorists, the City of Cape Town stepped in earlier this year. Engineers installed an early-warning system with height sensors to alert drivers before disaster strikes. GPS systems were also updated to steer trucks away from Bridget’s path.
But on Tuesday (17 June), Bridget proved that old habits die hard.
Gavin Finlayson captured the moment on video and shared it to Muizenberg's Famous Truck-Eating Bridge Facebook page.
The footage shows Bridget indulging in her first 'meal' in four months — taking a bite out of a truck's upper half as it tried to squeeze through, for breakfast — it is the most important meal of the day, after all, right?
Will she strike again? We’ll keep you posted.
