JOHANNESBURG - Two people have died in the Johannesburg CBD after a fire gutted a residential building on Commissioner Street.
Emergency services responded to the blaze on Sunday morning, after they received reports of a building on fire.
At least five people were injured with several others losing all their possessions in the fire.
Some residents from the fire-ravaged building on the corner of Nugget and Commissioner Streets in the inner city gathered outside, visibly shocked.
Some were wrapped up in blankets, while others had no shoes on, or jackets.
Eyewitnesses said the fire started at 5 am on Sunday, with emergency services extinguishing the fire later in the morning.
EMS was on the scene scouring the building for any other fatalities.
The cause of the fire has not yet been established.
