JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) officials have responded to yet another fire in the metro’s CBD.
This latest fire comes just two weeks after a building in Nugget Street caught alight, leaving two people dead and four others injured.
In August 2023, the Usindiso building in Marshalltown went up in flames, claiming 76 lives.
Saturday morning's blaze, which took place at around 6am at Kerk and Goud streets left more than 50 people displaced, with one patient being transported to a hospital for treatment.
“Disaster management is currently on scene to assist the affected families and have a clear number of how many families are affected. For now, we are doing preliminary investigations into what has caused the fire,” said spokesperson Nana Radebe-Kgiba.
