Members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) say DNA tests will be conducted on human remains that were found inside a crocodile.
On Saturday, body parts were found inside the animal during a month-long search for a man who was swept away in the Komati River.
This, after a Ford Ranger was discovered in the river without an occupant.
Police captain Johan “Pottie” Potgieter conducted the daring operation over the weekend.
He was lowered from a helicopter into the crocodile-infested Komati River and emerged with the dead reptile.
SAPS spokesperson Mavela Masondo explained: “The acting provincial commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, has commended the team that has been working tirelessly, in difficult and dangerous conditions, to find the missing person.”
