JOHANNESBURG - The South African Weather Service said the worst of the heatwave will likely hit Gauteng, Free State, and the North West on Wednesday.
Parts of the country including Mpumalanga and Limpopo are currently gripped by sweltering conditions, expected to continue until the end of the week.
Areas including the City of Johannesburg, West Rand, Tshwane, Sedibeng, and Ekurhuleni are battling scorching temperatures, with the mercury reaching 37 degrees in some cities.
Tshwane Emergency Medical Services spokesperson Charles Mabaso has appealed to residents to remain hydrated to avoid suffering from heat stroke.
"It is against this background that we call on residents to be aware of adverse effects that may be caused by extended exposure to extreme heat..."
In Joburg, Emergency Management Services teams say they’ll remain on high alert as the hot weather conditions continue.
Here’s spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi: "Residents are urged to be hydrated, drink lots of water, and try and stay away from direct sunlight, especially between 11am and 3pm."
