JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg Transport MMC Kenny Kunene opened a criminal case against three Democratic Alliance (DA) councillors after they allegedly released his personal information online.

Kunene opened a case of violating the Protection of Personal Information (POPI) Act at the Sandton Police Station on Thursday.

It's alleged that the councillors, who are currently unnamed, leaked his email address and phone number on social media.

Kunene said they left him extremely vulnerable to identity theft and have additionally placed his personal safety at risk.

He said the DA councillors should face the full might of the law, as this was a serious offence.

Kunene said he’s appalled by the conduct of the councillors, as they should be focusing on ensuring that residents of Johannesburg received good service delivery.
