Mpumalanga and KZN health MECs to pay ANC bus crash casualties hospital visit

Eight people lost their lives on impact while a nineth victim died in hospital.

JOHANNESBURG - The health MECs of Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal are expected to visit over 70 African National Congress (ANC) supporters in hospital following a bus crash. 

It's understood the driver lost control of the vehicle and it rolled over in Paulpietersburg at the weekend.

Eight people lost their lives on impact while a nineth victim died in hospital.

The group was travelling home to Mpumalanga after attending the ANC's manifesto launch in Durban.

MEC Nomagugu Simelane and Mpumalanga Health MEC Sasekani Nanzini will both be at Vryheid Hospital on Monday morning.

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport has launched an investigation into the crash.

It said the Road Traffic Management Corporation will be part of the investigation that will determine the cause of this tragic accident.

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport added that it’s already in touch with the company to help track down the families of the victims.

Spokesperson Kwanele Ncalane: "Our investigation is looking at the condition of the road, condition of the bus, weather during the times of the accident and the condition of the driver."

Ncalane is urging motorists to practice caution on the roads-- to prevent fatal road accidents.
