CAPE TOWN - Cabinet has reiterated its call for a ceasefire in the Palestinian territory of Gaza, and for all hostages to be released.
South Africa’s recent application made to the International Court of Justice earlier this month to strengthen provisional measures in Gaza, was back on cabinet’s agenda.
Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni said cabinet wants the court to consider that Israel continues to violate the interim measures issued in January.
This is in response to South Africa’s genocide dispute lodged against that state.
"Cabinet is concerned by the continuous loss of life and the needless suffering of the Palestinians and amid calls for the immediate end of hostilities. We are hopeful that South Africa’s urgent application to the International Court of Justice will bring an end to the conflict and allow space for the delivery of much-needed humanitarian aid," said Ntshavheni.
