Police open case to probe alleged fraudulent signatures submitted by MK Party to IEC

This comes after claims by a former senior official of the party Lenox Ntsondo, who alleged that the MK Party forged signatures that would see it registered to appear on the ballot.

DURBAN – The police say a case has been opened in connection to the alleged fraudulent signatures submitted to the Independent Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) by Jacob Zuma’s uMkhonto weSizwe Party.

This comes after claims by a former senior official of the party Lenox Ntsondo, who alleged that the party forged signatures that would see it registered to appear on the ballot. 

Police top brass spoke to journalists on the sidelines of a police force Imbizo in Inanda, north of Durban on Tuesday. 

National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola says an enquiry was opened in Cape Town. 

“There is an enquiry that has is opened a the Cape Town central police station, it is being investigated by the detectives in Cape Town, it’s at an initial stage to verify if there is a case that has happened.” 

He added should there be concrete evidence on the allegations, steps would be taken. 

“If it found that the elements of crime are all there, then the case will then proceed to the National Prosecution Authority for a decision.”
