Gauteng police investigating death of matric pupil at memorial service for schoolmate

JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng Education Department says police are investigating the death of a matric learner at the David Makhubo High School in Midrand.
The male pupil collapsed and died during a memorial service for another learner on Thursday.
The department says when the news of his death was shared with the rest of the learners, some of the pupils started experiencing fainting spells during assembly.
Spokesperson Steve Mabona says efforts are being made to understand the circumstances that led to his death.
"We wish to extend our sincerest condolences to the bereaved families following these tragic incidents. Currently, our priority is to provide all necessary support to the learners, staff, and families impacted by these tragedies."
