JOHANNESBURG - An alleged killer nurse is making her first appearance at the Lenasia Magistrates Court on charges of murder and insurance fraud.
She allegedly killed her domestic worker for a R6 million insurance payout.
In January 2022, the 48-year-old nurse allegedly took out three life cover policies with three different insurers on 21-year-old Busiswa Nxumalo before allegedly slitting her throat and dumping her body.
Chained and handcuffed, the nurse rode in on the back of a police van for her first appearance.
Police allege that the 48-year-old had the means, motive and opportunity to murder Nxumalo, further alleging that she orchestrated the killing by wooing her to Gauteng through the prospect of a job opportunity.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused committed the gruesome crime near her old home in Lenasia before her move to Vosloorus.
Since Nxumalo’s murder, the accused has been working as a nurse in Alberton, unable to claim the multiple policies due to suspicion by claims adjusters from all three insurance companies.
