Road closures were implemented at 3am on Wednesday morning and will be in effect until Thursday morning.
Driving to the Union Buildings in the early hours of the morning, it was almost impossible to miss law enforcement officers stationed at various parts of the inner city.
Several roads near Hatfield, Arcadia, and the CBD were cordoned off with traffic cones, while hundreds of men in blue were at nearly every corner braving the morning chill.
Major roads that are closed include large parts of the Stanza Bopape, Madiba, and Steve Biko streets.
Though the Union Buildings are not a hive of activity as yet, the final preparations are underway.
The stage is set, sound checks are underway, colourful lights are lit, and the presidential offices are ready to host local and international dignitaries.
South Africans who want to witness Ramaphosa’s inauguration will be allowed to access the southern lawns at the Union Buildings.
However, only accredited people will have access to the amphitheatre, where the official event will take place later in the day.
