The Showmax Original reality show Born Into Fame made its debut on our screens this week.
The weekly show follows six South Africans with famous parents, as they try to live up to their family legacies 'while discovering their own unique paths to success'.
They include media personality Shamiso Mosaka, daughter of radio legend and businesswoman Azania Mosaka; actor and musician Phila Madlingozi, son of muso and former National Assembly member Ringo Madlingozi, and the late Robbie Malinga’s son, social media sensation Robbie Junior.
Also featured is award-winning DJ Owami Mafokate, who's the daughter of 'kwaito king' Arthur Mafokate and gospel singer Queen Sesoko, herself a former kwaito star.
So, what is it like growing up as the child of a famous parent, and in Owami's case, a celebrity mom and dad?
Sara-Jayne Makwala King chatted to the young entertainer on Weekend Breakfast.
Her parents treated her just like a regular kid who was punished like other regular kids, Owami says.
On the plus side, her upbringing exposed her to the upside of the industry like going to shows and seeing firsthand how the music industry works, but there was also a downside.
"....being exposed to other things that are not so great, like going to clubs and being exposed to drugs and alcohol... but overall it's been great."
"When it comes to the issue of comparisons, the pressure I don't really get it from my parents but I do get it from the people on the outside."

Talking about her own success in the biz, Owami says it hasn't been 'easy' because of who her dad is, but more because of the way she grew up.
"I grew up in the space of going to shows and all of that... and I was interested, so I started dance lessons and singing lessons and piano lessons. It was just for for fun me at first and then I stopped for some time and focused on school; I thought I was going to be a lawyer... but music was a hobby that ended up turning into a career."

Her parents indicated they'd support her in whatever field she chose to enter Owami says, but her mother did draw her attention to the negative aspects of the music industry.
"It's been a big learning curve for me, having to see that as much as you can have talent... when you don't put the work in every day it stops you..."

Owami says she had to give the idea of joining 'Born Into Fame' a lot of thought, because she wasn't sure if she was ready.
"It's a nerve-wracking process - I'm used to cameras following my my dad, but now it's on me and I have to get my life out there... but it's something new, and if I could do everything, I would do everything!"
