JOHANNESBURG - The National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS) has urged the public not to panic following a breach of its system.
Ransomware was introduced into its systems by hackers over the weekend, resulting in users not being able to receive communication from the lab’s information system and other databases.
An incident response team was contacted to counteract the breach.
The service said that no patient data was compromised.
"Preliminary data suggests that our enterprise resource planning, environment and laboratory information system and our central data warehouse are not affected, therefore no patient data has been lost or compromised," said spokesperson Mzi Gcukumana.
