SOWETO - The funeral of the late former Bafana Bafana coach Stanley Tshabalala has been characterised by laughter and tears.

He was the first national football coach following readmission in 1992.

Tshabalala passed away a week ago after succumbing to wounds sustained during a robbery earlier this year.

Football rivalries were set aside for the day as club representatives turned up to show respect for Stanley "Screamer" Tshabalala, who had stints working at Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.

He was remembered as a stylish man with an unending love for football and who became a father figure to the many players he discovered.

Speakers also reflected on his difficult last days in hospital following his shooting, while his wife was hailed after spending every day at his bedside until his passing.

Tshabalala will be buried at Westpark Cemetery on Thursday afternoon as he leaves behind his wife, two children and a number of grandchildren.
