6 to 8 weeks to restore running water to flood-hit Riverlands, Chatsworth - Swartland Municipality

CAPE TOWN - The Swartland Municipality has indicated it will take six to eight weeks to restore running water to Riverlands and Chatsworth near Malmesbury.

Tensions are running high in the area where residents are struggling to access clean running water after heavy floods swept through the region last week.

The flooding caused major damage to property and infrastructure after three dams on Dassenberg farm collapsed.
 
Swartland community leader, Marlon Truter, said the municipality had promised to install a temporary pipeline but access to running water was still a problem.

"Swartland Municipality has given an indication that it will take six to eight weeks on their website but people are starting to get very agitated in Riverlands and Chatsworth, sitting without running water."
