DURBAN - The family of a woman killed in a hit-and-run accident by a member of the presidential protection service in Durban wants closure over her death.

Last Friday, Phumla Mtshali was run over by a VIP unit vehicle belonging to the police's Royal Protection Service.

Police said the officer who was driving the vehicle interfered with the scene by dumping the car in a bush before reporting it was stolen.

The officer later took his own life, but the Mtshali family still wants answers.

The family has described their late daughter Phumla as a caring person.

They said her death has not only shocked the family but the community at large.

The family said it still wants closure on her passing, despite the person behind it having taken his own life.

Family spokesperson, Philile Mtshali: “To us it doesn’t feel like justice that he took his own life, we do not even know his identity hence why we are dissatisfied with that. As the family we just need the proof that it is him and we are satisfied and find that the closure that we need, and the law will take its course.”

Police said investigations related to the case are ongoing.
