JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng government has a total of 45 multi-million rand incomplete infrastructure projects.
These are delayed projects that have either missed their deadline or are on course to miss it.
This is according to a presentation given to members of the National Council of Provinces who are in Gauteng to conduct oversight on some of these projects.
Of the total incomplete projects, 24 are currently in construction to be completed while five are still at planning stages and the rest of the projects are completed but still awaiting occupancy certificates, which have not been issued due to incorrect zoning and non-approval of building plans among other issues.
NCOP Gauteng whip, Jane Mananiso, said that issues of delayed projects were a country-wide problem.
"Issues of extortion, inadequate capacity and issues of inadequate funds. People who are doing under scoping and under costing, it's one of the issues but the other matter is issues of disruptions [of projects] by those who have business interests and the community."
For this current financial year, the Gauteng government has budgeted R12.7 billion to fix its infrastructure issues.
