CAPE TOWN - Metrorail's service between Wellington and Cape Town has resumed.
This followed repair work that Transnet conducted after two train coaches derailed at Dal Josafat station near Paarl exactly a week ago.
Twenty-five passengers sustained injuries and were treated at various hospitals in the vicinity.
The service resumed on Monday, and the rail operator has again stressed commuter safety remains a priority.
"Our commuters’ safety remains our top priority thus both PRASA [Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa]/Metrorail Western Cape and Transnet Freight Rail have established a board of inquiry to get to the root cause of the incident and to put remedial actions to prevent a future occurrence,” said Metrorail's Zino Mihi.
