LISTEN: Makazole Mapimpi chats overcoming life’s challenges to triumph in green and gold
“At the age of 34, I am still part of the Springboks… not many can say that,” says Makazole Mapimpi.
Robert Marawa catches up with Sharks and Springboks player, Makazole Mapimpi.
From Tsholomnqa Village in the Eastern Cape to being regarded among the best Springbok rugby players, Mapimpi has come a long way.
He admits he never thought he could play rugby professionally, let alone land a spot in the national team.
“I thought I was far from the system… In life, I think it is general that everyone has something that can hold them back in terms of being out there and expressing yourself to people.”

But he soon realised that it was what made him different that made him who he is today.

Mapimpi was recently inducted as the latest Hollywoodbets ambassador with the aim of using his brand and success to give back to the community.
“I think it is very important for me to do what I can. I can’t help everyone in South Africa but being able to assist four, or five guys who can actually achieve something… If people can do that for other people… we can help more people.”

“The love that I receive from the kids, elderly people, and everyone…it always hits differently. When I track back, I never received that… [so I am] giving back.”
