Gauteng Education Dept launches school safety imbizo

JOHANNESBURG -The Gauteng Education Department has launched the first of four school safety imbizos planned across the province.
These regional school safety imbizos target identified high-risk schools, where the department aims to address critical safety issues and build collaboration with local stakeholders to create safer learning environments.

Saturday, Education MEC Matome Chiloane led the first imbizo in Kliptown, south of Johannesburg.
Chiloane addressed a range of safety concerns, emphasising the need for stronger partnerships between schools and parents.
"This imbizo or engagement with yourselves was long overdue. The communities of Klipspruit West, Eldorado Park and generally the south, there’s an urgent need to deal with the challenges that are happening in our schools."
