Vigilance urged after inmate escapes from Boksburg prison

JOHANNESBURG - An inmate from the Boksburg Correctional Facility is on the run after escaping from the prison. 

Correctional Services said Martin Jackson fled from its facility on Wednesday under unclear circumstances.

He is serving a 20-year jail term for robbery, theft, and the possession of a firearm with ammunition. 

The department’s Singabakho Nxumalo said Jackson had been held at the Boksburg Prison since 2015.
“Correctional Services is working with other law enforcement agencies to locate and apprehend Martin Jackson. The public is urged to remain vigilant, and is asked to contact the nearest police station or a correctional facility if they have any information on the escapee’s whereabouts,” Nxumalo said.
