The latest police statistics show between July and September this year, over 12,600 cases of commercial crimes were reported in Gauteng.

JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police have warned the public to be aware of scams as commercial crimes are on the rise.

The latest police statistics show between July and September this year, over 12,600 cases of commercial crimes were reported in Gauteng.

This is a 22% increase from the previous financial year during the same period.

Gauteng SAPS presented its second-quarter crime statistics on Friday at the Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg.

Gauteng Police Commissioner Tommy Mthombeni said cases of fraud, forgery and uttering are on the rise.

“We will continue to raise awareness on some of these romantic scams which is happening online. Online shopping scams, jobs scams.”
