JOHANNESBURG - ActionSA said it was still waiting on the African National Congress (ANC) to respond to its offer of forming coalitions in the Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni municipalities.
The two parties are already in a coalition government in Tshwane, but now ActionSA wants to extend this to the other two metros in Gauteng.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Spaza for Locals March on Wednesday, ActionSA president Herman Mashaba said the party was tired of sitting on the sidelines while Johannesburg deteriorated.
"At the moment, ActionSA is not part of the executive. We are only in the legislature. It is for that reason that we have made an offer six weeks ago to the ANC to say, ‘it looks like you are unable to govern on your own, and we are running out of time as a country’. Our country is sitting on a time bomb. If you need our assistance, we are ready, capable, and willing to work with you."
Mashaba said ActionSA had a good working relationship with the ANC.
"So, it's up to the ANC. If they want our help in the City of Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni, we are available, and one thing nobody can dispute is that in Tshwane, we've been there five, six weeks, and everybody, the whole country, is actually raving about the coalition arrangement, the working together, the mutual respect."
