Gauteng's water woes: Lesufi's govt has been lax, says Steenhuisen

JOHANNESBURG - As parts of Gauteng face ongoing water shortages, the Democratic Alliance (DA) says that the national government cannot improve the situation unless municipalities actively invest in upgrading their infrastructure.
Increased water consumption and persistent leaks have left some municipalities struggling to meet the water demand.
The DA has outlined a plan to enhance water security, emphasising the need for municipalities to play their part.
DA leader John Steenhuisen said that other provinces should look to the Western Cape government as a model for better water management.
"Provincial and local government need to step up to the plate and in this province of Gauteng we have seen a hands-off approach by Premier [Panyaza] Lesufi and the provincial government, and we have seen a don’t-care attitude by ActionSA, EFF [Economic Freedom Fighters] and [African National Congress] ANC-led council in Gauteng."
