DWS opens Grootdaai Dam after heavy rain results in it overflowing

JOHANNESBURG - The recent heavy rain in Gauteng has resulted in the Grootdraai Dam in Mpumalanga overflowing.
In response, the Water and Sanitation Department has opened the Grootdraai Dam gate to ensure that water levels are returned to normal.
Departmental spokesperson, Wisane Mavasa, said residents had been informed of the steps taken to prevent further flooding.
"From our side as the department, whenever we have to do water releases, we inform the relevant communities - the farmers and all those that have equipment along the river, the flood lines."
