CAPE TOWN - The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (POPCRU) in the Western Cape is mourning the killing of yet another police officer in Cape Town.
Constable Ayanda Moyikwa was shot and killed in Mfuleni while on his way to work over the weekend.
Moyikwa had stopped to respond to an armed robbery in progress when he was shot multiple times.
The officer would have celebrated his birthday on Friday.
Western Cape POPCRU secretary, Mluleki Mbhele, has likened attacks of this nature on officers to attacks on the security of the state.
"The deliberate targeting of these officers not only destabilises communities but also sends a message of disregard for justice and security in our country. We have consistently expressed deep concern over the increasing number of police officers being killed in South Africa."
