CAPE TOWN - Residents of Chatsworth near Malmesbury are appealing to the Water and Sanitation Minister, Pemmy Majodina, to intervene in the area's water crisis.
Locals have accused the Swartland Municipality of failing to deliver basic services.
Their taps have been largely dry in recent months.
Nearly 3,000 Chatsworth residents said they sometimes would go for days without a shower.
Some claim that the municipality would, on random days, send fire trucks to supply them with unhygienic water.
Their community leader, Nadia Phyllis, says the water is making the local children and elderly people sick.
It is understood the water is being sourced from nearby farm dams.
"The children have to go to school, they get to school without water. Eventually, what is going to happen, we won't be drilling anything else we will be stealing water from people who have. It's going to cause anarchy and chaos because people are going to become desperate."
The Swartland Municipality insists vandalism of water infrastructure has exacerbated the region's water woes.
However, the residents are not having it.
