CAPE TOWN - The National Health Department is calling for extra precaution after it recorded three new cases of Mpox.

The virus is currently circulating in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda and has been reported in travellers returning to their homes around the world.

Health department spokesperson Foster Mohale says the cases were recorded a week ago.

"The first case was confirmed on 21 February in a 30-year-old male patient residing in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng Province with a recent travel history to Kampala in Uganda. The other two cases include a 30-year-old man and 27-year-old woman also from Ekurhuleni who were detected through contact tracing.”
