JOHANESBURG - Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi says his government is more than ready to host the G20 Summit following concerns about the state of the province.
The international gathering is scheduled to take place in Johannesburg in November.
During an inter-governmental meeting at the city’s headquarters on Thursday, President Cyril Ramaphosa urged the metro to address its issues before the gathering.
Lesufi says nothing stops the Gauteng government from hosting a successful international event.
“We are ready for the G20. The problems is that when BRICS was here, there were restrictions on what we couldn’t do as the local authority. But we know the areas we need to improve and I committed on behalf of government that we will not have the situation that the president has identified.”
