JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng's Portfolio Committee on Social Development has expressed disappointment with Post Bank for failing to attend a meeting to provide a status update on the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) card migration as the deadline is fast approaching.
The card swap was mandated by the South African Reserve Bank following a security breach of the SASSA gold card, prompting the entity to migrate to Postbank Black Cards.
An estimate of at least 70,000 beneficiaries in the province are yet to be moved to the new Postbank black cards before the cut-off date.
SASSA was the only entity present in Thursday's meeting to provide a status update on the migration process.
SASSA began by clarifying its role in the card migration, stating that Postbank was responsible for leading the process, but SASSA intervened due to delays.
The entity acknowledged that not all card swaps may be completed by the deadline.
An estimated 70,000 beneficiaries are expected to miss the deadline, despite SASSA's efforts to expedite the card migration process.
However, the entity is hopeful that the number will have decreased significantly by next week.
