CAPE TOWN - More than 200 South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) beneficiaries outside the Katlehong Shopping Centre, in the City of Ekurhuleni, are hoping to beat the deadline and get their new black cards on Thursday.
The SASSA gold card will officially stop working at midnight.
Beneficiaries were given a deadline to migrate to the new Postbank black cards that will now be used for grant payments.
Some grant recipients have expressed frustration over the migration process in Katlehong, saying they have been standing in the sun for hours without help.
Two Postbank officials are working to assist recipients with the move on Thursday.
One beneficiary told Eyewitness News that this is the third time she has been back at this specific site, in the past she has gone home without the new Postbank black card.
She said the officials normally stop taking people in 8:30am, but added that she continues to stand in line, with the hope that she will be helped at the end of the day.
