CapeTalk's Lester Kiewit interviews Alderman Grant Twigg, Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Waste Management.
Listen below:
A Facebook video captured by a homeowner's CCTV has left many feeling dumped on, showing a man driving up to the curb, checking his neighbour's bin for space, and then stuffing trash from his boot into it until it was overflowing.
With over 130k views, the video has sparked the question: Is it acceptable to toss your excess trash into a neighbour's bin?
According to Twigg, the answer is a firm no – it could be considered illegal dumping.
He advises that if you consistently have extra waste, it's time to get another bin.
"Definitely, you're not allowed to do that."

In this case, Twigg suggests the trash could've been taken to a waste drop-off instead.
However, if you get your neighbour's permission first, it’s acceptable – you just need to make sure you've received the green light.
