City Power concerned about huge shortage of Alexandra houses without smart meters

JOHANNESBURG - City Power has noted with concern that there is a huge shortage of households without smart meters in Alexandra, north of Johannesburg.

While others apply for the new devices, the power utility has warned residents in phase 1 and 2 in the area that if they don’t use electricity moderately, they may experience a winter with no lights.
The warning comes as the utility attends to a high number of outages caused by an overloaded network.
“Our teams are working around the clock to resolve these outages and stabilise the network,” said City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena.
“We urge our customers to remain patient and avoid taking part in disruptive activities that could result in further delays in our restoration efforts.”
