The South African football landscape is buzzing as the Nedbank Cup final nears.
This year’s final will be a Soweto Derby, reigniting the rivalry between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.
The teams will meet at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, 10 May.
“When the two face each other, the chances are they will be at their best because they know it’s not only about themselves… everywhere in South Africa is divided into two, and that’s how serious this is.”
– Putco Mafani, former public relations officer – Kaizer Chiefs

Orlando Pirates will be looking to retain their title, ending off coach Jose Riveiro’s stint on a high.
Riveiro will be leaving the Buccaneers at the end of the season.
“It’s going to happen [for Pirates]. You’ve got Rele Mofokeng, you’ve got Patrick Maswanganyi… It’s not going to be easy because it’s a derby. The past results have no bearing.”
– Mickey Modisane, former public relations officer – Orlando Pirates
“We need to end the season off on a high note.”

Kaizer Chiefs will be equally hungry for a win, as the team will be hoping to end its decade-long drought.
“Orlando Pirates players are going to be more dangerous this weekend because they also want to give Riveiro a glorious send-off with a trophy, and that’s what makes Kaizer Chiefs the underdog. It does, however, not mean that miracles will not happen.”
– Putco Mafani, former public relations officer – Kaizer Chiefs
