JOHANNESBURG - A small group of protesters have gathered outside the Boksburg Magistrates Court where a 28-year-old rape suspect is expected to continue his fight for bail.

The suspect is accused of raping an 11-year-old girl for five years after abusing his relationship with her parents.

The accused was a close family friend who, together with his wife, would have the minor visit during the holidays.

The relations between the two families have soured as the child’s family pleads that the suspect remain behind bars.

The protesters outside the lower court want his bail to be denied.

The group includes the family and community of an 11-year-old girl who is alleged to have been raped and impregnated by the suspect.

The 28-year-old man is a friend to the little girl's family and allegedly raped her since she was six as well as in December last year.

The child is now four months pregnant and is missing school as a result.

While the quest for bail continues, those outside the court have expressed fear that he may flee the country and head back to his country of origin, Uganda.
