CAPE TOWN - While water supply has been fully restored to Rheenendal, in the Garden Route district, several areas in Knysna remain reliant on water tankers.
As it stands, residents in 16 areas are still relying on water tankers to supply them with water.
Nine days ago, the water supply to the seaside town was interrupted due to water pump failures.
This led to protests by residents but Knysna municipal manager, Lulamile Mapholoba said that tensions between the municipality and residents had since eased.
"So we did go there to explain to community leaders about what we are doing about the water, even yesterday, tensions were already eased," said Mapholaba.
He added that engineers were working to restore water to all areas and hoped that it would be completed by Sunday.
"You know, when you have been without water in the pipes, it takes a bit of time for it to be cleaned, so we have issued an advisory to say people must start by boiling the water before they can drink it," he added.
