The Fuels Industry Association of South Africa (FIASA) has reassured consumers that despite rising fuel prices, the country is not facing a fuel shortage.
This follows a move by fuel suppliers to cap sales at pre‑agreed volumes.
FIASA CEO Avhapfani Tshifularo said that the measures are aimed at preventing shortages that could result from panic buying.
He added that the current fuel price hike is linked to the blockage of the Strait of Hormuz, forcing global markets to seek oil from alternative sources.
"The reason why you see that the price is increasing the way it is, it's because with the blockage of the refined products that come from the Middle East and crude oil, so suddenly people across the globe, they have to rearrange themselves in terms of where they get their fuel. So, we will all go where it is available."
