Ramaphosa hopes Trump will attend G20 Summit in SA

JOHANNESBURG - There is some hope that United States (US) President Donald Trump might attend the G20 Summit in Johannesburg in November.
Trump and senior officials in his administration have made it clear they would not set foot in South Africa later in 2025.

The stance stems from Trump’s belief that “very bad things are happening in South Africa”, a view tied to his false narrative of a white genocide underway.
During a bilateral meeting with President Trump on Wednesday, President Cyril Ramaphosa urged him to reconsider his decision and participate in the international gathering.
Ramaphosa said he’s hopeful Trump will come to South Africa.
“I want to hand over the presidency of the G20 to President Trump in November, and I said he needs to be there. I don’t want to hand over the presidency of the G20 to an empty chair. He is going to give serious consideration to it. In fact, I expect him to be coming to South Africa.”
