JOHANNESBURG - The lawyers of former African National Congress (ANC) national spokesperson Pule Mabe say they are ready to go to trial in the corruption case, but are being hindered by the State.

Mabe, along with his wife and five others, faces multiple charges of fraud, money laundering, and contraventions of the Public Finance Management Act.

In 2017, Mabe’s company, Enviro Mobi, scored a tender worth about R27 million to supply three-wheeler motorbikes to waste pickers in the City of Ekurhuleni.

On Tuesday, all seven accused appeared before the Johannesburg Specialised Commercial Crimes Court sitting in Palm Ridge.

In court, the State asked for more time to finalise its charge sheet against the accused.

It’s been eight months since the accused were arrested and made their first court appearance.

Advocate Zola Majavu, who is representing Mabe and his wife, said his clients are not happy with the delays.

“He [Mabe] says he is ready to go to trial, so bring it on, let’s go to trial and test all these allegations and let the court decide. Yes, he is not very happy, but he doesn’t locate himself outside of the law.”

The matter has been adjourned to 7 July 2025 for the State to present its final charge sheet and for the setting of a trial date.
