JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng Department of Health has confirmed that there is a continued rise in measles cases reported across the province.
A total of 181 cases have been confirmed since the beginning of the year.
Most cases were reported in Tshwane, with Mamelodi and Winterveld marked as hotspots.
Gauteng Health spokesperson, Motalatale Modiba, says they have launched a vaccination campaign.
“Inter-facility immunisation has also commenced, offering measles-rubella booster doses to all age groups regardless of prior vaccination history. The outbreak has revealed a concerning immunity gap in the province, particularly among children who are either not fully vaccinated or have never received the measles or rubella vaccine.”
