JOHANNESBURG - The lawyers of former African National Congress (ANC) national spokesperson Pule Mabe claim there are “errors” in the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA)'s draft charge sheet in a corruption case against him.

On Tuesday, Mabe, along with six co-accused, appeared in the Johannesburg Specialised Commercial Crimes Court, sitting in Palm Ridge.

They are charged with multiple counts of fraud and money laundering relating to a 2017 tender to supply Ekurhuleni waste pickers with three-wheeler motorbikes.

The State was granted a postponement until 7 July to complete a final charge sheet.

Advocate Zola Majavu, representing Mabe and his wife, said it was frustrating that the State was not ready, eight months after enrolling the case.

"I have it in writing where I ask pertinent questions and they [prosecution] pretty much said: 'Yeah, we made a mistake here, it was a typo. Instead of accused number six, we wrote number five' and that’s the point I was making, to say: 'Colleagues, look at the charge sheet. There are obvious errors.'"
