NUMSA says wage negotiations with Denel remain unresolved after meeting with execs

JOHANNESBURG - The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) said its wage negotiations with Denel remain unresolved following a meeting with company executives.
On Wednesday, NUMSA-affiliated workers picketed outside the arms manufacturing company’s headquarters in Centurion after it rejected their 7% wage increase demand.

Union spokesperson Phakamile Hlubi-Majola said it’s been five years since the workers were given an increase.
She added that they would meet the company again on Friday for further negotiations.
"Workers at Denel feel they have suffered to save the entity, and they feel justified in demanding a wage increase. They are struggling with the cost of living."
