The incident has left the community shocked, with some calling for all dogs in the area to be put down.

Sixty-five-year-old Joseph Mlangeni said he found the dogs attacking Hoyisana near his house.

Mlangeni said he tried to chase the dogs away; however, he was unsuccessful.

It was only after other community members pelted the dogs with stones that they let go of the child, leaving her injured and bloody.

“This thing left me traumatised because in all my life, I have never seen anything like this. I know that dogs bite and leave you, but I have never seen a dog eating a person. It was the first time in my life I saw something like that.”

Other community members who witnessed the violent attack have painted a picture of what happened, echoing Mlangeni’s sentiments that they have been traumatised by the ordeal.
