Cops confiscate R700k worth of drugs in Athlone

CAPE TOWN - Police have confiscated drugs worth R700,000 in Athlone.
Officers arrived at a fast-food establishment, where they found three vehicles in the Belgravia parking lot on Wednesday.
The vehicles were searched, and 3,000 mandrax tablets, along with wads of cash in one vehicle.
Another 13,000 mandrax tablets, and an undisclosed amount of Schedule 1 medicine were found at premises in Crawford.
Police spokesperson Frederick Van Wyk said the suspects would appear in the Athlone Magistrates Court once charged.
“Five suspects, a 58-year-old female and four males aged between 48 and 60, were arrested and charged for the possession and dealing in drugs. The drugs and three vehicles were handed in as exhibits at Athlone SAPS [South African Police Service]. Their cellular telephones were taken in for processing and further investigation.”
