BARBERTON - Although the family of the late David Mabuza has confirmed the date of his funeral, they say his final resting place has not yet been decided.

Speaking at a media briefing at his Barberton home in Mpumalanga on Saturday, the family announced that Mabuza will be laid to rest next Saturday.

The funeral will be organised jointly by the family, government and the African National Congress (ANC).

Eyewitness News has learnt that Mabuza had hoped to be buried on his farm, in the quiet hills of Barberton, where he spent much of his time.

An ANC delegation visited the farm on Saturday to view the spot he had indicated as his preferred resting place.

But family spokesperson Desmond Moela says no final decision has been made yet, as discussions continue with the government and the party.

“The family is considering many options with guidance from many parties. This is not just going to be a matter for the family only, but government and the ANC as well.”

Government is expected to announce further details about the funeral in the coming days.
