JOHANNESBURG - The family of slain Ekurhuleni municipality auditor Mpho Mafole are still struggling to come to terms with his death.

Mafole was fatally shot on Monday while driving on the R23 Highway in Kempton Park.

At the time of his death, Mafole was investigating a ‘mysterious’ R2 billion revenue shortfall from the metro’s coffers.

His funeral service is currently taking place at the Kempton Park Civic Centre.

 Emotions ran high as the family of Mafole came up to say their final words of goodbye.

His fiancé and the mother of his three children Kele Masapo said that they still had a lot of plans for their family.

"I don’t have much to say except thank you for loving me deeply and unconditionally. You have shown me what love looks like and feels like.”

Mafole’s daughter Kgontse was inconsolable as she spoke about her father.

"I still don’t understand why you had to leave me so soon. Daddy, I wasn’t ready to say goodbye, I thought you’d be here to watch me grow, to cheer me on and hold my hand when life got scary."

Speakers at the funeral service have all demanded justice for Mafole’s murder.
