Friends and family bid farewell to slain Ekurhuleni municipality auditor Mpho Mafole

JOHANNESBURG - Friends, family and colleagues of Mpho Mafole have come together to pay their final respects to the slain Ekurhuleni municipality auditor.
The 44-year-old was gunned down on Monday while driving along the R23 highway in Kempton Park.
At the time of his death, Mafole was investigating a mysterious R2 billion shortfall in the city’s coffers.
A funeral service for Mafole is currently taking place at the Kempton Park Civic Centre.
Born in the township of Tembisa in 1981, Mafole matriculated at Edenvale High School.

He later graduated from the Pretoria Technikon with a B.Tech degree in Internal Auditing and later completed a certificate in fraud risk management at the University of Pretoria.
Mafole’s career began at Ernst & Young, then the Auditor General of South Africa and finally at the Ekurhuleni municipality where he was the divisional head of corporate and forensic audit.
He was the only child of his parents. He leaves behind his fiance and three children.
