JOHANNESBURG - The children of slain Ekurhuleni auditor Mpho Mafole say they have been robbed of the opportunity of having a loving father in their lives.
A funeral service was held for Mafole on Sunday at a packed Kempton Park Civic Centre, filled with his family, friends and colleagues.
The former divisional head of corporate and forensic audit was fatally shot last week while driving along the R23 highway in Ekurhuleni.
At the time of his death, he was working on a high-profile investigation looking into the metro’s mysterious two billion rand revenue shortfall linked to a massive electricity billing scandal in the metro.

Mafole's eldest son, Kgaugelo, said that he is still struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.
"Dad, I never knew I would be saying goodbye this soon. It still feels like a dream, like you’re still at work and you will be returning later on as usual. You were my hero and role model, even though you said you wanted us to achieve more than what you have. You were not just a hero to me but also to the outside world.”
Mafole's daughter, Kgontse said that a hole has forever been left in her heart.
"Daddy, I wasn't ready to say goodbye. I thought you’d be here to watch me grow, to cheer me on, to hold my hand when life got scared and tell me everything would be okay. You were my hero, my biggest supporter and my favourite person.”
