CAPE TOWN - Police believe an alleged baby snatcher made two previous attempts to steal babies before being arrested for abducting a nine-day-old infant from his mother.

Kidnapping accused, Sameemah Jacobs, made her second appearance in the Bellville Magistrates Court on Thursday, where her bail hearing commenced.

Jacobs faces charges of kidnapping and defeating the ends of justice after being found with an abducted baby in her Tafelsig home on Monday last week.

Anti-kidnapping unit detective, Sergeant David Fortuin, told the court that Jacobs tried to steal two other babies before her eventual arrest.

Fortuin, who is part of the investigation team, testified in a bail hearing on Thursday as a witness for the State.

He told the court that Jacobs gained access to patients' records at the Mitchells Plain Hospital to target two other pregnant women.

Evidence shows that Jacobs had a miscarriage in March this year but continued to pretend that she was pregnant.

Fortuin also mentioned the possible involvement two other women, Chevon and Waseemah, who were seemingly involved in the abduction of Imaan Sharmar's baby on 28 June.

He said that the investigation was yet to determine the true identities of Chevon and Waseemah.

The matter was postponed to 17 July for the defence to cross-examine Fortuin.
